There’s something magical about the city at sunrise. The streets are quiet, the light is soft and golden, and the world feels like it belongs just to you. For Alexis and Noah’s Columbus engagement photos, we chose a 7am, exploring both the Short North and the Scioto Mile — and it could not have been more perfect.

A Full Circle Moment

When Alexis reached out to tell me she was engaged and wanted me to photograph her wedding, I was over the moon. Years ago, I photographed her senior portraits, and to now capture this next milestone in her life feels incredibly special. One of the things I love most about being a photographer is building long-lasting relationships, and following a client’s journey from high school to engagement (and soon to marriage) is such an honor.

Meeting Noah

Noah admitted early on that he had never had professional photos taken before — not even senior pictures. Like many guys, he skipped them altogether. Understandably, he was a little nervous about what to expect, worried that the session might feel stiff or uncomfortable. But within minutes, he was relaxed, confident, and completely himself. In fact, he stepped right into the role of creative director, adding his own ideas and personality to the session. It was such a joy to see.

Sunrise in the City

To get the best light (and to avoid the weekend traffic and chaos), we met just before sunrise. Alexis joked that leaving the house in total darkness had her questioning my sanity, but she trusted the process — and the results made it worth every early-morning yawn.

The Short North and the Scioto Mile offered the perfect backdrop. The architectural lines, colorful murals, and riverfront views gave us variety and depth, while the golden morning light elevated every frame. By the time the sun fully rose, the images had already taken on a romantic, editorial quality that perfectly suited Alexis and Noah.

Columbus Engagement Photos: The Experience

We laughed, we wandered, and we made space for natural moments to unfold. Alexis looked radiant against the soft city light — I couldn’t help but comment more than once on her crystal blue eyes, which completely lit up on camera. Noah surprised himself by how much fun he was having, which is the best seal of approval I could ask for.

Columbus Engagement Photos: Final Thoughts

This session was everything an engagement shoot should be: authentic, joyful, and timeless. Alexis and Noah’s sunrise Columbus engagement photos captured not only the love they share, but also the trust they placed in me to create something beautiful together. And if their wedding is anything like this session, I know it’s going to be incredible.
